Sixth Inning Fells B-Mets in 6-1 Loss

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Altoona Curve struck for four runs in the top of the sixth and defeated the Binghamton Mets, 6-1, Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton managed only four hits in their fourth straight home defeat and tenth loss in twelve games.

With the game tied at one, Jonathan Schwind reached on an error charged to L.J. Mazzilli to lead off the sixth. Jin-De Jhang then singled, moving Schwind to third. He later scored on a wild pitch, giving Altoona the lead. The bases were loaded with walks to Eric Wood and Barrett Barnes, then Chris Diaz drove in Jhang with a single. Curve relief pitcher Edgar Santana then laced a single to left, scoring Wood and Barnes to push Altoona's advantage to 5-1.

The Curve struck first with a run in the first inning, as Erich Weiss doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Edwin Espinal.

Binghamton's lone run came in the fourth. Dominic Smith walked and took third on a Xorge Carrillo single. Victor Cruzado then lifted a sacrifice fly to foul territory in right, allowing Smith to tag and score, tying the game at one.

Altoona extended its lead with one more in the seventh. Weiss led off with a triple and later scored on an Espinal single, making the score 6-1.

Andrew Barbosa left the game in the fourth inning with an apparent injury and took a no decision with one run allowed on three hits and three walks in three innings. Kelly Secrest (0-1) was the losing pitcher with three runs, two earned, three strikeouts and two hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Santana (2-0) did not allow a hit in three innings and struck out two to earn the win. He was 1-for-1 with two RBI at the plate. Maikis De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles to lead the B-Mets.

The series concludes on Thursday with the first pitch slated for 6:35 P.M. RHP Tyler Pill takes the rubber for Binghamton against Altoona's RHP Tyler Eppler.
