New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Nashville Sounds jumped on the New Orleans Zephyrs for six runs in the first inning, capped by a Taylor Green grand slam, defeating the Z's 7-1 on Sunday night.
Zephyrs starter Tom Koehler (5-2) settled in after spotting Nashville six runs in the first, allowing just one hit over the next five innings, but took his first loss at home since August 23, 2009 while pitching for Class A Jupiter, a span of 12 decisions.
The Zephyrs got their lone run in the first inning on a Matt Dominguez sacrifice fly.
Sounds starter Amaury Rivas (4-5) improved to 3-0 against the Zephyrs this year as he pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out four.
The Sounds were led by Edwin Maysonet, who went 3-for-4 with a RBI.
The Zephyrs went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 baserunners, dropping to 0-for-21 with runners in scoring position over the last three games. New Orleans left the bases loaded in the seventh, when Josh Kroeger flied out against Nashville reliever Zack Segovia.
New Orleans returns to action on Monday night at 7 p.m. for game three of the series against Nashville. Sean West (0-2) takes the mound for the Zephyrs as he faces off against Frankie De La Cruz (0-4).
