Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The first-place BlueClaws continue to roll towards a return to the post-season, topping Greensboro 13-0 on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Park. Grenny Cumana had four hits (his fourth, four-hit game of the year) and Emmanuel had three hits for the BlueClaws, who have won six in a row and 15 of their last 19 games.
The BlueClaws (36-23/65-63) tied their season-long winning streak with the win. They had won six straight games from May 9 - 15 vs Kannapolis and West Virginia. The 13-run margin of victory is Lakewood's largest since at least 2006.
With the win, remain three games ahead of Hagerstown, winners over Delmarva. There are now 11 games to play and Lakewood's magic number has been reduced to nine.
Lakewood jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third. The inning started with three straight hits by Grenny Cumana, Edgar Cabral, and Emmanuel Marrero, with Marrero's bloop single to right scoring the game's first run. Cornelius Randolph added a SAC fly for the 2-0 lead.
The BlueClaws started the fifth with a lead-off double from Jan Hernandez and scored four times to take a 6-0 lead. Emmanuel Marrero had a bunt single up the first base line, thrown away by pitcher Isaac Gil which led to two of the four runs in the inning.
BlueClaws starter Tyler Gilbert (7-8) came out after five innings, allowing no runs on three hits with six strikeouts to earn the win. Blake Quinn threw two scoreless innings in his BlueClaws debut.
Lakewood added three more in the sixth on RBI doubles by Marrero and Mark Laird plus an RBI single by Cornelius Randolph to chase Parker Bugg.
Jose Pujols, Cornelius Randolph, and Mark Laird also had two hits in the win for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws look for a three-game sweep with a win Thursday night at 6:05 (one hour earlier than normal). RHP Alberto Tirado (5-1) starts for Lakewood against RHP Ben Meyer (4-9).
