Six Former Kernels to Play in 2016 Arizona Fall League

Cedar Rapids, IA - Six former Kernels have been assigned to the roster of the Surprise Saguaros when the 2016 Arizona Fall League kicks off on October 11. They are pitchers John Curtiss, Mason Melotakis and Randy Rosario; catcher Mitch Garver, and infielders Tanner English and Nick Gordon.
In addition, Ivan Arteaga, the Kernels 2014 Pitching Coach, is on the coaching staff of the Saguaros, made up of players from the Red Sox, Royals, Twins, Pirates and Rangers.
Curtiss pitched for the Kernels this season and is currently at high-A Fort Myers. Melotakis pitched in Cedar Rapids in 2013 and is at double-A Chattanooga, along with Rosario who pitched in Cedar Rapids in 2014 and 2015.
Garver was part of the 2014 Kernels and was recently promoted to triple-A Rochester. Gordon and English were both part of the 2015 Kernels and are currently at Fort Myers.
The Arizona Fall League consists of six teams, made up of six players from each MLB team. They play a 30 game schedule, along with a Fall Stars game on November 5 and a championship game between the East and West Division Champions on November 19th.
Your playoff-bound Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 3rd to open the final three game home stand of the regular season against the Clinton LumberKings. Gates open at 5:30 PM on Saturday with first pitch set for 6:35 PM.
