Six different Caps score in victory

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Madison Capitols scored a season-high seven goals as they edged the Youngstown Phantoms, 7-5, at the Covelli Centre on Thursday night.

Madison (8-14-0-1) is ranked ninth in the Eastern Conference with 17 points. Youngstown (12-7-3-1) is ranked first in the Eastern Conference with 28 points.

The Capitols took a 6-3 lead at 5:55 of the final stanza. Right wing Ryan O'Reilly carried the puck from the left point to the center of the Phantoms zone before wristing a shot past goaltender Wouter Peeters for his team-leading 14th goal of the season and game-winner.

Left wing Tommy Parrottino started off the scoring with his seventh goal of the season at the 17-minute mark of the opening frame. Skating on the power play, center Curtis Hall dug the puck out of the right corner and found Parrottino on the left doorstep for a one-timer that beat Capitols goaltender Dryden McKay for a 1-0 lead.

Madison tied the game at 1-1 with center Anthony Callin's third goal of the season at 8:28 of the second period. Callin battled with Phantoms players along the left wing half wall before taking the puck, weaving through players, and finding the top right corner of the net to tie the game.

The Phantoms regained their lead, 2-1, with Hall's 11th goal of the season. Parrottino passed the puck to Hall as he was sliding through the right face-off circle. Hall snagged the puck near the hash marks and wristed the puck into top left corner of the net at 10:26 of the middle frame.

At 11:25 of the second period, center Michael Mancinelli tied the game at 2-2. O'Reilly fired a shot from the right point that was saved by goaltender Ivan Prosvetov. The rebound popped free to the slot for Mancinelli to bury into the back of the net.

The Capitols took the lead at 16:35 of the middle frame with forward Kamil Sadlocha's fifth goal of the season. Left wing Alec Broetzman skated in on Prosvetov all alone and flipped a backhand on net. Prosvetov made the save but Sadlocha buried the rebound for the 3-2 lead.

Defenseman Jared Kucharek netted his first goal of the season at 16:51 of the second period to give the Capitols a 4-2 advantage. Kucharek skated through the center of the Phantoms zone and wristed a slap shot past goaltender Ivan Prosvetov.

Peeters replaced Prosvetov at 16:51 of the second period.

The Phantoms came back to within on goal with center Max Ellis' eighth goal of the season. Parrottino passed the puck from the left doorstep to Ellis in the slot. Ellis one-timed the puck past McKay at 1:10 of the third period to bring the score to 4-3.

Broetzman tallied his 11th goal of the season at 2:40 of the final period to give Madison a 5-3 lead. Center Ludwig Stenlund fired a shot from the right wing boards. The rebound fell between the hash marks for Broetzman to turn and snipe into the left corner of the net.

The Phantoms scored a power play goal at 10:59 of the third frame off the stick of left wing Matthew Thomson. Cycling the puck with the man advantage, center Mike Regush found Thomson in the right face-off circle. Thomson snapped a shot that beat McKay to bring the score to 6-4.

Regush brought Youngstown back to within one, 6-5, at 15:48 of the third period. Center Matthew Barry was on the left doorstep when he fed the puck over to Regush on the right doorstep for a one-timer and tally.

Callin collected an empty net goal at 18:55 of the final frame to solidify the Capitols win.

McKay (7-10-0-1) earned his seventh win of the season, stopping 25-of-30 shots. Prosvetov (6-2-2-0) stopped 20-of-24 shots. Peeters (6-5-1-1) took his fifth loss of the season with 7 saves on 9 shots in relief duty.

Madison was 1-for-3 on the power play. Youngstown went 3-for-5 with the man advantage.

Notables: Madison snapped their two-game losing streak...Seven goals is a season-high for the Capitols...Center Anthony Callin scored his second two-goal game of his USHL career; the other one came against the Green Bay Gamblers on March 31, 2017...Left wing Alec Broetzman and right wing Ryan O'Reilly both scored a goal and two assists.
