Sioux-Out Falls for Caps

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Madison Capitols earned a point as they fell in a shootout, 3-2, to the Sioux Falls Stampede at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center on Friday night.

Madison (22-28-1-3) is ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference with 48 points. Sioux Falls (19-27-3-6) sits in seventh place in the Western Conference with 47 points.

Center David Brumm scored the lone shootout goal to give Sioux Falls the win.

Right wing Konur Peterson put the Capitols on the scoreboard at 15:34 of the opening frame with his fourth goal of the season. Left wing Verners Egle passed the puck from the right wing half wall to Peterson who picked it up along the end red line. Peterson attempted a wrap around shot but goaltender Mikhail Berdin made the pad save. The Capitols winger grabbed his own rebound and roofed the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Stampede tied up the game with left wing Josh Passolt's 19th goal of the season at 7:44 of the middle frame. Passolt broke down the center of the ice and skated in on Capitols goaltender Dryden McKay all alone. Passolt moved the puck from his forehand to his backhand and slipped it past McKay to tie the game at 1-1.

Right wing Jeffrey Losurdo netted his second goal of the season and first with the Capitols at 12:18 of the second period to give Madison a 2-1 advantage. Defenseman Cole Hults held the puck in at the left point. Losurdo then played a little give and go with left wing Alec Broetzman. In the left face-off circle, Broetzman sent the puck back to Losurdo on the right doorstep. Losurdo wristed a shot up and over Berdin.

Center Jack Becker evened the game at 5:30 of the third period with his 14th tally of the season. Passolt carried the puck down the left wing and centered it over to Becker between the hash marks. Becker controlled the puck and snapped a wrist shot over McKay's blocker for a 2-2 game.

McKay (18-14-0-3) took his third shootout loss of the season stopping 29-of-31 shots. Berdin (13-10-1-3) earned his 13th win of the season with 42 saves on 44 shots.

Madison went 0-for-3 on the power play. Sioux Falls was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Notables: Right wing Jeffrey Losurdo recorded his first goal in a Madison uniform... Defenseman Cole Hults is on a three-game assist streak with four assists...The Capitols are 0-2-0-1 all-time when playing in Sioux Falls all-time... Goaltender Dryden McKay surpassed netminder Darren Smith for second all-time in minutes played (2,113), trailing only goaltender Garrett Metcalf (3,013) in franchise history.
