Sioux City Slows Hawks

Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Sioux City Musketeers edged the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-3 at Tyson Events Center Friday, dodging a season series sweep after Waterloo had claimed the first three matchups of 2012/13.
Liam Pecararo gave the Black Hawks a lead just less than five minutes into the game, stuffing in an opportunity created by Taylor Cammarata. However, the Musketeers went to intermission ahead, first tying the score on a power play goal by J.T. Stenglein at 14:12, then going in front a little more than four minutes later when Michael Kapla converted a drop pass by Riley Bourbonnais.
Waterloo and Sioux City exchanged goals in the second, beginning with a game-tying score by Blake Winiecki at 5:45, cutting across the top of the crease to beat Kyle Hayton with a low shot. The Musketeers went back in front at 14:29 with a one-timer by Stenglein near the beginning of a five-minute major power play. Sioux City was turned away on the remainder of the advantage - including two minutes the Hawks spent two-men shorthanded - thanks in part to a one-on-one glove save by Cal Petersen against David Henry late in the period.
Sioux City took a two-goal lead on a redirection by Jake Guentzel at3:26. Mark Friedman made it a 4-3 contest three minutes later, picking his way through the slot to redirect a pass from Zach Stepan into the net during a four-on-four sequence. However, Waterloo could not manage an equalizer; the Hawks were turned away on three subsequent power plays, including a five-on-three opportunity.
The Hawks meet the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for a Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup matchup on the road Saturday night. After a day off on Sunday, Waterloo returns to Young Arena on New Year's Eve to host the Lincoln Stars. Tickets for the 7:05 contest are available from waterlooblackhawks.com; Black Hawks offices will open Monday morning at 9AM for phone orders at (319) 291-7680.
