Sioux City Musketeers Sign Anthony Kehrer to Tender

April 29, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

The Sioux City Musketeers have signed defenseman Anthony Kehrer to a tender agreement for the 2018-19 season. Kehrer is from Winnipeg, Manitoba and is committed to the University of Wisconsin.

Now in its seventh year, the USHL tender process allows teams to sign up to two 2002 birth year players prior to the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft, which takes place on May 7.

The five-foot-eleven, 195 pound Kehrer spent last season with Rink Hockey Academy Prep of the CSSHL where he recorded five goals and 12 assists to go with a +8 rating in 23 games. In 2016-17, Kehrer recorded four goals and 23 assists along with a +6 rating in 29 games with Rink Hockey Academy Bantam Prep. With plenty of success so far, Kehrer is excited about the opportunity in the USHL.

"It feels amazing to sign a tender in the USHL. When I was younger, the USHL was always on my radar, and I am really excited to get my opportunity to play in this league," Kehrer said. I feel the players here can really push me and help take my game to the next level, and with my plan to go to Wisconsin the USHL was the perfect fit."

Kehrer is the first tender signing for Sioux City this season. The signing of Kehrer will replace the Musketeers' first round draft choice in the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft.

If Sioux City tenders a second player, that signing would take the place of a second-round selection in the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft. The final day for USHL teams to sign a tender is Sunday, May 6, 2018. Each tendered player will be on their respective team's roster the next season and play at least 55% of the team's regular season games.

"We are excited to have Anthony Kehrer join our organization as a 2002 tender," said Sioux City head coach Luke Strand. "Anthony has the ability to step into the USHL and make an impact as a younger player. We look forward to his ability to be a two-way right-handed defenseman that will add offense with this stick and skating ability."

Kehrer becomes the eighth player signed to a tender for the 2018-19 season, joining Ruben Rafkin (Tri-City Storm), Chase Bradley (Omaha Lancers), Colby Ambrosio (Tri-City Storm), Alex Gaffney (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Ben Schoen (Youngstown Phantoms) and Wyatt Schingoethe (Waterloo Black Hawks) and Andrei Bakanov (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders).

Kehrer is the fourth player to be tendered by Sioux City since the start of the USHL tender process, joining Ryan Mantha (2012), Eeli Tolvanen (2015) and Sampo Ranta (2016).
