Sioux City Ends Series With Saints With Loss

Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Explorers wrapped up the home-stand at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park with a loss, falling to St. Paul 6-4 in nine innings.

St. Paul scored early and often in the early innings, tallying four quick runs in the first inning. The four runs earned in the inning came off of three straight doubles, jumping out to a rapid 4-0 lead.

Sioux City recorded their first run in the second inning to cut the lead to 4-1 after two innings of play.

In the top half of the fourth, the Saints extended the lead even further. With a runner on and two outs, Alonzo Harris smashed a two-run homer to give them six runs on the contest.

Explorers scored three of their four runs in the fourth inning. Back-to-back RBI singles by Matt Koch and Ralph Henriquez gave them the first two runs of the bottom half. Matt Koch crossed home later in the inning off a 5-4-3 double play, handing them four runs on the night.

Former Explorers and current St. Paul Saints right-hander, John Straka (5-1) received the victory, allowing four runs in 6.1 innings pitched. Ryan Rodebaugh (s-8) got the save for St. Paul, retiring the side 1-2-3 to clinch the victory.

Sioux City left-hander Cody Forsythe (2-3) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out five in five innings.

The Sioux City Explorers will start a three game series in Wichita on Thursday (June 23-25th) against the Wingnuts at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
