Simpson Notches 26-Save Shutout in 2-0 Win over Alaska
October 22, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO. - Colorado Eagles goaltender Kent Simpson stopped all 26 shots thrown his way, as the Eagles defeated the Alaska Aces 2-0 on Friday at the Budweiser Events Center. The win now moves the Eagles to 3-0 to begin the 2016-17 season.
The Eagles faced four Aces powerplays in the first period, including a four-minute double minor assessed to Eagles defenseman Teigan Zahn, but the Colorado penalty kill would thwart all four of those opportunities to leave the game scoreless after 20 minutes of play.
Colorado would finally break through late in the second period when forward Jesse Mychan stuffed in a rebound in the low slot past Aces goaltender Kevin Carr to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with just 1:49 to play in the middle frame.
Both teams would generate quality scoring chances in the third period, but Simpson would stand tall in net, while defenseman Matt Register collected his first goal of the season with an empty-netter with less than two minutes to play in regulation.
Register finished the night with a goal and an assist, while Eagles forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel posted a pair of assists in the victory.
The Eagles will continue their homestand when they host the Alaska Aces on Saturday, October 22nd at 7:05pm. Season tickets for the 2016-17 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $50 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
