Simon Says The Madison Capitols defeated the Bloomington Thunder, 4-1

MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols defeated the Bloomington Thunder, 4-1, at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Madison (4-5-0-0) is ranked six in the Eastern Conference with eight points. Bloomington (3-6-2-0) is ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference with eight points.

"(We) came out right away with a lot of energy and they were focused," said Capitols' Head Coach and General Manager Garrett Suter. "Their compete level was back to the level that they should be at. We made some mistakes to start, but the effort was still there. They were sticking together and started to simplify the game, then that opened it up for more opportunities later."

The Capitols doubled their lead to 2-0 with forward Simon Sagissor's first goal of the season at 7:32 of the middle frame. Sagissor carried the puck into the Thunder's zone and handed it off to forward Kevin O'Neil who was skating down the left wing. O'Neil wristed a shot on net, and Sagissor backhanded the rebound past Thunder goaltender Gabriel Mollot-Hill's glove.

Forward Noah Weber scored the Capitols' first goal of the night at 3:01 of the second period. Forward Eugene Fadyeyev sent a pass from the top of the left face-off circle to ddefenseman Cole Hults at the center point for a one-timer on net. Mollot-Hill made the initial save before Weber slid a backhander through the netminder's legs for his second goal of the season.

Forward Easton Brodzinski scored his first goal of the season in his first Capitols game to give Madison a 3-0 lead. Forward Marshall Moise dug the puck off the left wing boards and sent it to the left face-off dot. Brodzinski spun around and fired a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net at 9:32 of the third period.

Brodzinski doubled his goal total for his second tally of the night at 14:24 of the third period. Fadyeyev won the face-off in the right circle and Brodzinski picked up the loose puck and roofed it over Mollot-Hill to give the Capitols a 4-0 advantage.

Bloomington defenseman Brady Smith tallied the lone goal for the Thunder. Forward Ben Mirageas won the face-off in the left circle and fed the puck to the left point where Smith snapped a shot through traffic that deflected up and over Capitols netminder Dryden McKay.

McKay (2-0-0-0) earned his second win of the season stopping 29-of-30 shots.

Mollot-Hill (2-2-1-0) suffered his second loss of the season making 25 saves on 29 shots.

Madison was 1-for-4 on the power play. Bloomington went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Notables - Forward Simon Sagissor scored his first goal with the Capitols...Forward Easton Brodzinski collected two tallies in his first game with the Capitols...Forward Noah Weber has two goals in his first three games of the season...Goaltender Dryden McKay is the second goaltender in Capitols history to win his first two starts; the first was netminder Daniel Lebedeff.
