Belleville Bulls News Release
TORONTO, ON - The Ontario Hockey League handed out the annual hardware on Tuesday afternoon at the Hockey Hall of Fame as Bulls forward Scott Simmonds received the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy, awarded to the OHL Humanitarian of the Year.
With a large crowd of familiar faces from throughout the league, Bulls voice and event MC Jack Miller conducted the proceedings, eventually calling on Greg Snyder, the brother of deceased former OHL and NHL player Dan Snyder to award the prestigious trophy.
"It's a little overwhelming," said Simmonds of the recognition he received. "It's not everyday you get to be inside the Hockey Hall of Fame let alone receive this kind of award. It's a special thing."
Simmonds, who has plans to attend the University of Guelph in the fall says his years in Belleville and interactions with the community will always be remembered. "It's tough to move on, but everyone has to keep growing and gaining new experiences. I'll never forget my years as a Bull, but now it's time to move on. I'm looking forward to a new hockey season at a new level of competition."
Simmonds is the fifth player in Bulls history to win the Humanitarian of the Year Award, joining Andrew Gibbons, Michael Mole, David Silverstone and Craig Mills.
Simmonds played in 245 games as a Bull over four seasons and was an active and consistent presence in the community throughout the Quinte region.Â
