EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) and general manager Garry Davidson announced today that the club has recalled rookie defenseman Montana Onyebuchi (Onn-yeh-BOO-chee) from the Eastman Selects of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.

Onyebuchi, 16, was selected by Everett in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft and signed to a WHL Standard Player Agreement on Sept. 3, 2015. It is the 2000-born defenseman's second recall to the WHL this season and he joins the Silvertips blueline after tying for second among Eastman's defensemen with 27 points (9g-18a) in 40 games this season, also posting 74 penalty minutes and four points (1g-3a) in 12 playoff games.

Last season, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound blueliner was tied for third among defensemen in assists (10) for Eastman of the Winnipeg Bantam AAA Division-1 league. He earned 15 points (5g-10a) in 32 games, fourth among the club's defensemen. He is eligible for the NHL Entry Draft in 2018.

Onyebuchi is scheduled to wear jersey #5.

The Silvertips open their first round series of the WHL Playoffs with Game 1 against the Portland Winterhawks tonight at 7:35 p.m. (1380 AM/WHL Live) at XFINITY Arena. Fans can secure their playoff shirt for free by securing a six-game playoff ticket package, starting at only $90, or an opening round mini-series package, guaranteeing the same seats for games 1-2.
