Silvertips Recall Defenseman Micheal Zipp
December 3, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips today announced that 1996-born defenseman Micheal Zipp has been recalled from the AJHL. Zipp will join the team today and remain on Everett's roster throughout the remainder of the 2012-2013 WHL season.
Zipp, 16, spent training camp and the preseason with the Silvertips before being re-assigned to the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound blueliner did not record a point in nine AJHL games with the Dragons this season, but totaled 23 penalty minutes.
Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Zipp was selected in the fourth round (73rd overall) of the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft and signed with the Silvertips in March of this year. In four WHL exhibition games with Everett, he recorded one assist and a -2 plus/minus rating in September. He also posted eight assists and 34 penalty minutes in 32 midget AAA games for the Edmonton Canadians last season.
"We're excited to bring Micheal back to the Silvertips," said General Manager Garry Davidson. "With the injury to Ryan Murray, the movement of Griffin Foulk and Mirco Mueller set to miss a number of games during the World Junior Championships, a spot has opened up for us to add another quality young player to our group. We liked what we saw from Micheal in training camp and the preseason, and now he'll have the chance to gain valuable experience during practices and games as he begins a promising WHL career."
The Silvertips will play their second straight game against the Portland Winterhawks Tuesday night as they visit Portland for a 7:00 pm opening puck drop. Everett will then host back-to-back home games this weekend at Comcast Arena, battling the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday and the Vancouver Giants Saturday.
Season tickets, mini-game packages and single-game tickets for the Silvertips' 10th Anniversary season at Comcast Arena are on sale now.
