Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Patrick Bajkov dished two assists and Lasse Petersen was a winner in his debut, making 12 saves to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 3-1 victory in their home opener, over the Vancouver Giants before a crowd of 5,308 at XFINITY Arena on Saturday.
The Silvertips improved to 7-5-1-1 lifetime in home openers, improving to their first 2-0-0-0 start since the 2014-15 season. Bajkov and his linemates, Matt Fonteyne and Graham Millar, combined for 11 points in the two weekend victories over the Giants, where the Silvertips outshot their opponents, 64-36.
Millar scored the first goal at home for the Silvertips this season putting them up 1-0 off a centering pass from Connor Dewar (set up by Lucas Skrumeda), 3:30 into the first period. The Tips defense clamped Vancouver to a 10-0 shots deficit in the first period, and outshot the Giants 10-4 in the first 20 minutes.
Despite a flurry of high-grade chances, the Silvertips were unable to extend the lead in the second and Vancouver capitalized at 16:53 into the period when Jack Flaman put in Vancouver's first goal of the night off a pass from Gage Ramsay and Tyler Brown.
But just over a minute later, Matt Fonteyne took the puck off a pass from Kevin Davis and Patrick Bajkov and beautifully dangled to the forehand to put it past Ryan Kubic's stick for a 2-1 lead.
In the third period the Silvertips took advantage of a 5-on-3 situation and Brett Kemp was able to find his first WHL career goal, a one-timer from the left side at 4:15, from Bajkov and Davis who both got their second assists of the night.
Their next game is September 30th in Portland at Veterans Coliseum, underway at 7:00 p.m. (1520 AM KKXA / Tips App / WHL Live). Their next home game is October 5th against Tri-City at XFINITY Arena in Everett. Puck drop is 7:05PM PT.
