Silvertips Defeat Moose Jaw, 5-2

Moose Jaw, SK -The Everett Silvertips opened up a huge four goal first period Wednesday night to help anchor the club's 10th win of the 2008-2009 regular season, defeating Moose Jaw 5-2. Tyler Maxwell had a four point night (2G,2A) and now has eight points (4G,4A) in his last three games. Kent Simpson made 27 saves on the night for his fifth win of the season. Everett's penalty kill comes in at 93.3 percent on this road trip killing 26 of 27 penalties in their last five games.

This brings the ‘Tips record to 10-8-3-0 with 23 points in 21 games played standing four points behind second place Spokane Chiefs in the U.S. Division. The Silvertips are now 4-4-2-0 in their last 10 games. Everett now has a day off before heading to Swift Current, Saskatchewan for the last game of their Eastern Conference trip.

Everett made sure to come out early and set the pace of the game as Silvertips standout Kellan Tochkin scored his ninth goal of the year after burying home a backhand rebound off a Tyler Maxwell shot. Coming out hot after a quick 1-0 lead, Everett put away three more goals in a 1:47 span. Maxwell scored his sixth of the season after catching Moose Jaw on a bad change and beating Warriors netminder Jeff Bosch at 11:19. Kyle Beach got on the score sheet after crashing the net and putting home his fifth of the season at 12:15. Then Taylor Ellington put home his first goal since the last time Everett played Moose Jaw in the '07-'08 season. Ellington scored on the power play at 13:02 to top off a four goal first period.

Moose Jaw came out tough in the second period and controlled much of the play, outshooting the ‘Tips 15-4, the Warriors got their first goal from Nathan MacMaster at 13:38. Yet, thanks to great goaltending from Kent Simpson the Silvertips were able to hang on to a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Everett added some insurance to their lead at 4:38 of the third period as the nights number one star, Tyler Maxwell, scored his second goal of the night beating Bosch on the backhand. Moose Jaw tried to fight their way back into the game scoring at 7:18 to bring the score to within three, but Everett proved to be too much for the Warriors tonight taking home a 5-2 victory.
