Silvertips Acquire Goaltender Austin McGrath from the Edmonton Oil Kings

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), four-time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, and general manager Garry Davidson announced today the team has acquired goaltender Austin McGrath from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a conditional seventh round selection in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

McGrath, 18, was named recipient of the Bill Ranford Award for league's top goaltender, selected first team All-Star, and received the league's Most Valuable Playoff Performer honor this season with the Lloydminster Bobcats (AMHL) with a 12-3-2 record in 17 games, a .925 save percentage, four shutouts, and a league best 1.81 goals-against-average.

He backstopped the Bobcats to a TELUS Cup appearance and AMHL championship with six shutouts in nine postseason appearances, leading the league with a .980 save percentage and 0.44 goals-against-average. The native of Lloydminster earned a gold medal at the Western Canada Challenge Cup in 2013-14.

McGrath was originally selected by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the fourth round (76th overall) of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
