Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders won the final game of the series against the Portland Beavers by a tally of 6-4 on Thursday. Depending on how Sacramento fairs, the Sidewinders still have a shot at the post season.

Portland started the game off with a two run first. A double by SS Royce Huffman brought in both runs.

The Beavers added two runs in the second. The first came on a wild pitch by Tucson starter LHP Bill Murphy. A LF Paul McAnulty single brought in the second run before a double play ended the inning.

Murphy scored the first run for the Sidewinders in the bottom half of the third. He led off with a single and came around on a LF Alex Romero double down the line in left. Romero moved to third on a groundout and scored on a RF Carlos Quentin sac fly.

In the fifth, with one out and CF Carlos Gonzalez on, Quentin hit a bullet off the wall in left. Gonzalez scored on a ground out to bring Tucson within one at 4-3.

After three singles in the sixth, the Sidewinders had the bases loaded with two out. Gonzalez hit a ground ball up the middle that scored two runs and netted Tucson a one run lead with the score at 5-4.

An infield single and back-to-back walks conceded by LHP Will Startup loaded the bases for the Sidewinders with one out in the seventh.

Tucson extended their lead with a run in bottom of the seventh.

Quentin started in right on rehab. He went 1-for-3 with a RBI.
