Dallas Sidekicks News Release

HIDALDO, TX - Historically not the most successful in road openers, the Dallas Sidekicks first road game of the season got off to a fast start on Sunday, helping change that trend in a 7-3 Sidekicks win over the Rio Grande Valley Flash at the State Farm Arena. Sidekicks forward Jamie Lovegrove scored the third-fastest goal in Sidekicks history at the :23 second mark of the first quarter. Lovegrove was assisted by defender Kiley Couch on the score.

Despite being outshot 34-12, the Dallas Sidekicks took advantage of key opportunities, good shooting and steady goaltending to send the Rio Grande Valley Flash to their first loss of the season.

Sidekicks forward Renato Pereira followed up Lovegrove's goal with one of his own, off an assist from Lovegrove at the 13:32 mark of the first quarter. Second quarter-goals by Franck Mbemba and Ricardinho gave the Sidekicks an early 4-0 lead, and the team never looked back.

Play began to get a little rough late in the first half when Sidekicks forward Shaun David and members of the RGV Flash team got involved in a shoving match, but players and referees intervened and nothing escalated.

The Flash got into the scoring act quickly after halftime, when defender Angel Hernandez scored an unassisted goal at the :33 second mark of the third quarter.

Sidekicks forward Carlos Videla scored unassisted less than minute later, to make it 5-1 Sidekicks.

Angel Hernandez scored a second unassisted goal at the 3:51 mark of the fourth quarter to close the scoring gap to 5-3 Sidekicks, but that was as close as it would get the rest of the way.

Videla added another goal off an assist by Robert Luevano, and Ricardinho got the credit for an own goal on Rio Grande Valley late in the fourth.

Sidekicks goalkeeper Sagu made 26 saves on 29 shot attempts, while Flash goalkeeper Jose Bontti made 3 saves on 10 shot attempts.

Notes:

Both teams came in to the matchup at 1-0, and the game was the first meeting between Sidekicks head coach Tatu and Flash head coach Mariano Bollella. The Sidekicks' win gives them a 7-13 record all-time in the first road game of the season. The last road-opening win for Dallas was June 14, 1996 against the Anaheim Splash. Attendance was listed at 966. Rio Grande Valley will try to even the series when the team travels to Dallas for a rematch on Friday, November 30.
