Shot of Smirnov helps Ducks skate past Moose

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Alexei Smirnov scored in overtime to lift the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks over the Manitoba Moose, 4-3, Friday at Cincinnati Gardens.

With an assist from Keith Aucoin, Smirnov netted the game-winner with just a tenth of a second left in the extra session.

Mark Popovic scored midway through the third period to tie the score at 3-3 for the Ducks, who have won four of their last five games.

Joel Perrault also scored for Cincinnati, recording his first career multiple-goal game with a pair of tallies 3:33 apart in the second period.

Sean Pronger opened the scoring 32 seconds into the first period and Martin Grenier and Brandon Nolan scored in the second for Manitoba, which is winless in its last four games (0-3-1-0) and has just one win in its last seven (1-4-2-0).

Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 28 shots, including four in overtime, to pick up his 14th win. Johan Hedberg, assigned earlier in the day by Vancouver for conditioning, finished with 32 saves in the loss.

The Ducks face Milwaukee at 7:35 p.m. tonight at Cincinnati Gardens. NASCAR driver Tony Stewart will drop the first puck, sign autographs for select fans and participate in intermission events.
