Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Delmarva scored nine times in the second inning and coasted past the BlueClaws 14-2 on Tuesday night at Perdue Stadium.
The nine run second inning tied the most runs ever allowed in an inning by the BlueClaws (it's happened three times, most recently 4/20/2012 at Hagerstown). Five of the nine runs were charged to starter Seranthony Dominguez (0-1), who allowed five runs in 1.2 innings in his BlueClaws debut, and four were charged to Jake Waguespack.
The win levels the series between Lakewood (5-8/34-48) and Delmarva (6-7/48-34).
At one point, six straight Shorebirds had hits in the inning, including a two-run double by Austin Anderson and RBI triple by Ricardo Andujar to chase Dominguez. Waguespack then gave up three straight hits before a three-run home run by Natanael Delgado to put Delmarva up 9-1.
The Shorebirds scored twice more in the fourth, once in the fifth, and twice in the sixth off Luis Morales, who gave up five runs in 2.2 innings of relief.
The BlueClaws had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a home run by Jose Pujols, his league-leading 16th home run of the season. It was the second straight game with a home run by Pujols and the fifth time he's homered in back to back games.
Eight of the nine Shorebirds starters had hits in the game, led by Yermin Mercedes and Natanael Delgado who both had three.
Christian Alvarado, who came into the game having thrown 19 straight scoreless innings, allowed two runs in five innings and improved to 7-4. Mike Burke (three) and Bobby Strader (one) combined for four scoreless innings in relief.
Damek Tomscha and Brendon Hayden each had two hits for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws and Shorebirds finish their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Franklyn Kilome (1-7) starts for Lakewood against LHP Brian Gonzalez (5-4).
