Sharks Brawl Past Falcons 4-1 - Head Coach Roy Sommer Records His 400th Career AHL Victory

Worcester, MA- The Worcester Sharks defeated the Springfield Falcons 4-1 in a game that featured 146 penalty minutes as Head Coach Roy Sommer recorded his 400th career AHL victory at the DCU Center on Sunday afternoon.
Andrew Desjardins started the scoring with a shorthanded rebound goal: 37 seconds into the first period. In the final minute, Matt Jones tipped a Danny Groulx shot to put the Sharks ahead 2-0 at 19:14. After twenty minutes of play the Sharks led 2-0 outshooting the Falcons 17-6.
The Falcons cut into the lead early in the second period when Chris Linglet scored a shorthanded goal at 3:30. At the 8:05 mark, the Sharks extended their lead when Steven Zalewski sent a blistering wrist shot over the shoulder of Falcons goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Tempers flared when the period ended, as the benches cleared for a scrum at center ice. Forty minutes of penalties were handed out at the 20:00 mark as the period ended with the Sharks on top 3-1.
The third period was a vicious one with many big hits and fights, but the Sharks were able to keep their composure to secure the win. After another brawl at 8:25, Dan DaSilva added an empty netter at 18:26 to extend the score to 4-1, where it would finish.
With the win the Sharks move to 7-3-0-1 on the season.
Notes: Coach Roy Sommer won his 400th career game in the AHL joining Fred "Bun" Cook, Frank Mathers, and John Paddock........ Frazer McLaren received a game misconduct in the second period and set a franchise record with 46 minutes of penalties...Forward Dennis McCauley received a major for fighting and a game misconduct at 8:25 of the third period during a line brawl... Tyson Sexsmith had 14 saves in the win for Worcester for his 2nd win.......Devan Dubnyk had 30 saves in the loss for Springfield........The Sharks went 1/5 on the power play........The Falcons went 0/5 on the power play....the game featured 146 penalty minutes, 76 for Worcester.
