Sharks Bite Sound Tigers 5-1 for First Win

WORCESTER, Mass - The Worcester Sharks (1-3-0-1) kicked off their first 3-in-3 weekend with their first win of the 2012-13 season with a convincing 5-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (3-1-0-0) on Friday night at the DCU Center.
Alex Stalock made 18 saves in the win for Worcester and five different players scored for the Sharks first win at home and for the season. Tim Kennedy (1-2-3) and James Sheppard (1-2-3) each picked up three points and Curt Gogol grabbed the game winner in the four goal victory. The Sharks head to Manchester tomorrow for a 7pm battle vs. the Monarchs before returning home to host the Sound Tigers again on Sunday at 3pm.
The Sharks outshot the Sound Tigers 11-5 in a scoreless first period. Jimmy Bonneau, playing in his first game of the season, had a solid bout against Bridgeport's Brett Gallant at 6:45 to set the temp for a physical first period. The Sharks were 0-1 on the power play in the first period, while the Sound Tigers were 0-2.
The Sharks came out firing in the second period. They got on the board first at :29 of the second period on a nice shot by Tim Kennedy (2nd), with assists going to John McCarthy and Bracken Kearns. The Sharks added to their lead when Curt Gogol (1st) one-timed a shot from the slot past Bridgeport goalie Kevin Poulin, giving Worcester a 2-0 lead. Kennedy and Kearns picked up assists on the goal. Sena Acolatse (2nd) then blasted a slap shot home at 15:28, to give the Sharks a 3-0 lead. Freddie Hamilton and Travis Oleksuk picked up the assists on the Sharks third goal. The Sharks led 3-0 after 40 minutes and held a 24-13 shots advantage.
In the final frame, Bridgeport cut into their deficit when Brock Nelson (2nd) got a nice pass from Jon Landry and fired it past Alex Stalock, making it a 3-1 game. The Sharks answered twice late in the third period with power play goals by Matsumoto (1st) and Kearns (1st) at 18:32 and 19:02 to put the Sound Tigers away 5-1.
The Sharks overall record improves to 1-3-0-1 (3pt in 5gp) and 1-1-0-0 (2pt in 2gp) on home ice.
