Sharks add a pair of Receivers to the 2017 roster

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that wide receiver Tarrell Downing and Corey Alberty have been signed to the Jacksonville roster for the upcoming 2017 season.

Tarrell Downing (6'0", 195) joins the Sharks for his first season with the team and first season in the National Arena League. During his professional career, Downing played wide receiver and kick returner for both the AAA Professional Football League (APFL) and the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL). In 2015, played for the Arizona Scorpions of the APFL for the teams' inaugural season. Downing played both wide receiver and special teams for the Scorpions helping them to a 2-2 spring season record. In 2014, Downing played for the Kansas Koyotes of the CPIFL where he played 7 games recording nine catches for 185 yards and four touchdowns. On special teams he returned 38 kicks for 910 yards and one touchdown during the Koyotes final season in the CPIFL. In 2013, Downing attended the mini camp for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL falling short a final roster spot.

Downing attended Missouri Western State University, a division II school in St. Joseph, Missouri. Downing started in 37 games for the Griffons recording 101 receptions for 1,577 yards, and 13 touchdowns. On special teams, Downing recorded 34 kick returns for 891 yards and two touchdowns. As a punt returner, Downing had 30 punt returns for 353 yards and one touchdown. Downing was named All-MIAA Honorable mention in 2011 and Second Team All-MIAA as a kick returner in 2010. Downing is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and attended Hazelwood East High School, where he played Defensive Back and Wide Receiver. During his senior year he received the Old Spice Player of the Year award.

Corey Alberty (6'0", 200) joins the Sharks for his first season and first season in the National Arena League. Alberty spent 2016 with the Maryland Eagles of the Mid-Atlantic Indoor Football League (MAIFL). In 2015, Alberty signed with the Bemidji Axeman of the IFL before the team folded following the regular season. Alberty then had a brief stint with both Duke City Gladiators and the Centex Cavalry of the Champions Indoor Football League (CIF) during the teams' inaugural seasons in 2015.

In 2013, Alberty signed with the Abilene Bombers of the Lone Star Football League, during the team's run to the LSFL Semi Finals. Prior to his time with the Bombers, Alberty signed with the AFL Georgia Force in 2012 and then Bloomington Extreme of the IFL in 2011. Alberty spent a season with the Maryland Maniacs of the IFL in after being traded from the San Angelo Stampede Express (IFL) during the 2010 season. Prior to the trade, Alberty spent the 2009 season with San Angelo Stampede Express after being released by the Green Bay Blizzard (IFL) earlier in the year.

Corey Alberty is a native of Augusta, GA and spent his college career at Georgia State University.
