St Cloud, MN - St. Cloud Rox pitcher Matt Shannon (Angelo State) became the third Rox player in the past three days to win a nightly Northwoods League award on Friday, being named pitcher of the night for his performance against La Crosse.
Shannon made his third start of the season for the Rox against the Loggers on Friday, having posted wins in his first two outings. He kept that undefeated streak alive, pitching 7.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven batters. Shannon lowered his season ERA to 0.47, which currently ranks second in the Northwoods League.
Shannon is the third Rox pitcher this season to win a nightly award, joining teammates Austin Caspersen (St. Cloud State) and Austin Dubsky (Murray State), the recipient of the award for Thursday's games. Ricky Ramirez (McNeese State), Luke Ringhofer (South Dakota State) and Mark Skonieczny (Illinois) have all won position player of the night honors from the league.
The Rox will be on the road in Eau Claire this weekend for a two-game series with the Express before returning to Joe Faber Field on Monday for a showdown with the Willmar Stingers. Monday's game will feature a Rox umbrella giveaway presented by Wells Fargo for the first 300 fans.
