Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - The Seattle Mariners made two roster moves affecting the Jackson Generals over the weekend. On Sunday, infielder Zach Shank was promoted to Triple-A Tacoma. On Saturday, right-handed pitcher Dylan Unsworth was placed on the disabled list.
Shank, 25, reached base in each of his first 29 games with the Generals this season. The 29-game on-base streak is the longest in the Southern League this season, going from April 7 to May 17. Over the streak, Shank hit .330 (33-for-100) with 14 RBI, 16 runs scored, one double, two triples and nine walks. The 29-game streak is one more than the second longest in the league, which belongs to Jackson's Tyler O'Neill.
The infielder leaves the Generals with the best batting average on the team at .315 over 32 games. Shank reached base in 30 of 32 games with Jackson and recorded a hit in 23 of 32 contests. The 25-year-old isn't new to Triple-A as he split time between Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma in 2015 before opening the 2016 season with the Generals. He hit .252 in 33 games with Triple-A Tacoma last season.
Unsworth, 23, was placed on the disabled list retroactive to Saturday May 21 after his start on Friday May 20 against Chattanooga. The righty left in the middle of a full count in the top of the fifth inning against the Lookouts. Unsworth is 3-1 this year with a 1.18 ERA, the fourth-lowest in the Southern League and best on the Generals among qualified pitchers. In his eight starts this season, the South African has finished with a quality start four times.
The 23-year-old Unsworth opened the 2016 season as the fifth starter in the Generals rotation after making his Double-A debut in 2015. Last season, the righty split time between High-A Bakersfield and Double-A Jackson. Unsworth started the 2015 campaign in Bakersfield and went 4-7 with a 4.34 ERA over 13 starts with the Blaze. While with the Generals, Unsworth went 1-3 with a 3.32 ERA in five starts and six relief appearances.
Jackson's roster stands at 23 with four players on the disabled list.
