DUNEDIN, FL - RHP Justin Shafer did not allow a hit in his first start since coming off the DL in the Blue Jays' 6-2 win over first place Clearwater in the first game of a four game set on Monday night. SS Richard Urena and 1B Ryan McBroom contributed with home runs while RHP Carlos Ramirez (W, 2-0) tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

Urena's home run came in the bottom of the first to kick off the scoring. Dunedin added two more with tally marks in the third and fourth. C Mike Reeves provided a pair of RBI-singles for the Jays in the fourth and sixth innings. Reeves collected his first three-hit game of the year.

McBroom knocked in a pair with a sac fly in the third and his solo shot to center in the seventh. The home run came on the tenth pitch of his at bat against MLB rehabber LHP Mario Hollands, his first at home this season.

Shafer walked four without allowing a hit in his first start since April 10. He was charged with a run when Ramirez relived him in the fifth, allowing an infield single for the first hit of the game that scored RF Samuel Hiciano.

LHP Tim Mayza struck out three of the four batters he faced, retiring all of them. LHP Jose Fernandez tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the game.

The two teams shift game two to Clearwater with first pitch at 7:00 pm. RHP Conner Greene will face off against RHP Will Morris.
