Sgt. Slaughter to Headline Military Appreciation Night
June 17, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release
The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have announced Military Appreciation Night at The Diamond on Saturday, June 19th. A jersey off-the-back auction, a giveaway, and a special appearance will highlight the night presented by WRVA.
Clad in camouflage jerseys, the Flying Squirrels will honor the women and men of the U.S. armed forces during pre-game festivities and as they take the field against the Altoona Curve at 6:35 PM.
The night will begin with a Camo Cap Giveaway presented by Budweiser. The first 3,000 fans 21 and older through the gates of The Diamond will receive the giveaway.
The Flying Squirrels will also welcome special guest SGT. Slaughter, former professional wrestler and WWE legend, to The Diamond to greet fans and sign autographs.
There will be a jersey off-the-back auction taking place during the game on the main concourse. Proceeds from the Jersey Auction will benefit the Robert E. Lee Chapter of the Association of the United States Army that supports soldiers at Fort Lee and throughout central Virginia.
Winners will be announced following the game and the Flying Squirrels players will present their camouflage jerseys to their respective winners on the field.
"It is extremely important to us to honor the heroic men and women of our armed forces and show them our appreciation as they bravely protect the freedoms of this great country" said Flying Squirrels' VP & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "Our jersey off-the-back auction is a unique way in which we can show our support to local soldiers at Fort Lee. Having SGT. Slaughter here will also add a fun twist to the Military Appreciation Night for our fans."
Gates will open at 5:05 for live music prior to the game provided by the Fort Lee Army Band, who will also be singing the National Anthem.
Great seats still remain for Military Appreciation Night and the remainder of the home stand. Tickets can be purchased today by visiting the team's ticket office at The Diamond, calling (804) 359-FUNN (3866), or logging on to SquirrelsBaseball.com.
