SF Bulls Lose in Penalty-Filled Game in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. - The San Francisco Bulls (19-26-1-6) were defeated by the Stockton Thunder (26-20-5-4) 4-0, Saturday night at Stockton Arena. Edmonton Oilers prospect Olivier Roy made 34 saves for the Thunder, and picked up his first shutout of the season. The game was the most penalty-filled Bulls game of the season. The teams combined for 144 penalty minutes, highlighted by a 10-man brawl in the third period.
Stockton scored two quick goals in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead. Gabriel Levesque scored his sixth goal of the season at 5:34. Matt Reber picked up the only assist on the play. Then Eric Hunter scored for the 16th time this season to extend the lead. Ryan Constant and Ryan Green assisted on the goal at 6:16.
Matt Bergland scored at 1:13 of the second period to up Stockton's lead to 3-0. A goal-mouth scramble in front of the net left Bergland alone with an empty net. Reber and Garet Hunt assisted on the goal. Stockton then scored on the power play at 2:48 to widen the gap to 4-0. Levesque scored his second goal of the evening from Teigan Zahn and Maxime Boisclair. Taylor Nelson was pulled from the game at this point in favor of Thomas Heemskerk.
Tempers flared in the third period after a stoppage in play to the right of Heemskerk. Kris Belan, Hans Benson, Dylan King, Jordan Clendenning and Cody Carlson all engaged in fights.
The Bulls return home tomorrow afternoon to take on the Thunder once again at 2:15 pm. Sunday will be Pucks and Paws day at the Cow Palace. In honor of Hockey Across America Week, all fans can shoot on the Bulls goal following the game.
Bulletins: The Bulls are 5-3-0-1 against the Thunder this season...San Francisco was out-shot 45-34...Peter Sivak's three-game point streak was snapped..Thomas Heemskerk made 22 saves...The Bulls had 73 penalty minutes to the Thunder's 71.
