Seven-Game Losing Streak Ends Thanks to Davis Double in Ninth

June 24, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1) - Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Ike Davis capped a come-from-behind victory for Binghamton Wednesday night with a walk-off double to defeat Bowie 5-4 at NYSEG Stadium. Ruben Tejada and Emmanuel Garica both went 3-4 in the win which snapped the B-Mets seven-game losing streak.

Trailing 4-2 entering the ninth, Tejada and Garcia singled to open up the frame against Baysox closer Josh Perrault. Jose Coronado followed with a sacrifice bunt attempt which Perrault was indecisive on allowing Coronado to reach on a base hit. Thole hit a sacrifice fly to center which scored Tejada to cut the lead to 4-3. Davis followed by doubling just inside the bag at first and plated Garcia for the tie and Coronado from first for the win.

Bowie struck first off Dylan Owen by stringing together three base hits before an out was recorded in the second. Michael Costanzo scored when Daniel Figueroa grounded into a double play to make it 1-0.

Garcia tied the game at one off starter Bobby Livingston in the third when he hit a leadoff homer, his fourth of the season.

After Owen walked Costanzo, former B-Mets outfielder Ambiorix Concepcion smashed a two-run home run to left which put the Baysox back in front 3-1.

Binghamton (27-43) responded with one in the bottom of the fourth when the bottom of the order strung together three hits with two outs. Jonathan Malo reached when he beat out a grounder and Tejada followed with a single to right. Garcia then drove in Malo from second with a base knock to left to make it 3-2.

Adam Donachie led off the seventh for Bowie (37-33) with a single off Mike Antonini, who was making his first relief appearance since 2007, and was bunted over to second by Jonathan Tucker. Miguel Abreu drove in Donachie with an RBI single before being thrown out trying to stretch it into a double to make it 4-2.

Roy Merritt pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the win and move to 3-4 on the season. Owen went five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks in his return to the B-Mets rotation.

Livingston pitched six innings, giving up two runs on 10 hits and left with the chance to win. Perrault blew his third save in 15 opportunities for his second loss.

Binghamton will look for their first series win since May 17 as they close out the three-game series with Bowie Thursday night. The B-Mets will send LHP Eric Niesen (0-2, 11.00 ERA) to the mound and the Baysox will counter with RHP Radhames Liz (1-0, 7.20 ERA). The first pitch is slated for 7:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
