Sertich named Stars' 2006-07 Man of the Year

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars are proud to announce that Center Marty Sertich has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Metro Des Moines community during the 2006-07 season.
The first-year player born in Colorado Springs, Colorado and raised in Roseville, Minnesota has been a contributor to many of the Iowa Stars community and charitable events. He has participated in the Iowa Stars reading program, reading regularly at area schools. Even though he was injured, the 24-year-old helped the Iowa Stars with their efforts for the Iowa Stars Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk team in early March.
Marty has also volunteered his time to help give on-ice instruction to the local Des Moines youth hockey program's instructional program, as well as donating several hours to Blank Children's hospital. The rookie forward also pens a blog for the Stars website.
In recognition of his efforts, Sertich will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation at the Stars last Regular Season home game on April 7th against San Antonio.
Sertich is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
