OTTAWA - It's official, the Ottawa 67's will battle the Mississauga Steelheads in their opening round series of the 2017 OHL playoffs. Ottawa's first round opponent was determined Tuesday night after Sudbury defeated Mississauga pushing the 67's to the seventh-seeded team and a date with the second-seeded Steelheads. **If necessary
Ottawa and Mississauga split the season series with the road team winning every game and the 67's scoring both their victories in overtime. The two teams combined for 32-goals in those four contests coming as no surprise with the Steelheads finishing the season as the highest scoring team in the Eastern Conference.
While Mississauga boast ample firepower on offence, the 67's looked dangerous on offence in the home stretch of the regular season netting 27 goals in their final eight games.
The 67's open up the 2017 OHL playoffs with two-straight games at the Hershey Centre before returning home for Games 3 and 4 at The Arena at TD Place.
Left-winger Jered Steege has four goals and five assists this season versus Mississauga, leading the 67's in points against the Steelheads. Another strong performance from Steege coupled with the hot play of Artur Tyanulin, Austen Keating and Mathieu Foget - who have combined for 69 points over the last 16 games - and the 67's will be well placed for a first-round upset.
It has been seven years since the 67's and Steelheads last met in the playoffs when Mississauga eliminated Ottawa in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
