Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In a Friday night frenzy at Louisville Slugger Field, the Louisville Bats topped the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 5-3. The Bats move to 36-13 when they crack the run column first.
Center fielder Scott Schebler was the player who put Louisville on the board first with a two-run home run in the first inning, only to have the game tied up in the fourth after a two-RBI double by Lehigh Valley.
The game was decided in the sixth inning, however. Left-handed pitcher John Lamb (1-2, 7.91) allowed a run in the top half but the Bats answered with two of their own after a Schebler RBI triple and an RBI single by left fielder Jesse Winker, who later knocked in an insurance run with another single in the eighth.
Lamb finished his night with a no-decision despite striking out 10, one shy of his career high, which included a string of four straight to begin the game. He also allowed four hits, three earned runs, and walked two on 101 pitches, 63 strikes. Right-handed pitcher Dayan Diaz (4-1, 3.44) collected the win in relief of Lamb, throwing an inning and one-third and right-handed pitcher Kevin Shackelford earned his third save of the year.
The Bats evened the series by handing right-handed pitcher Ben Lively (4-4, 3.86) the loss after he tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits, four earned runs, walking three and striking out five.
Saturday night's matchup is scheduled to be right-handed pitcher Robert Stephenson (6-5, 3.83) for the Bats facing off against right-handed pitcher Phil Klein (1-0, 1.08) for the IronPigs, as they are set to begin at 7:05 pm at Louisville Slugger Field.
