Harrisburg Senators News Release
Altoona, PA - RHP Craig Stammen turned in a terrific start as the Harrisburg Senators topped the Altoona Curve, 4-2, Monday at Blair County Ballpark. Leonard Davis slammed a three-run homer in the victory, which propelled the Senators to their third win in the four-game series.
The Curve jumped ahead 1-0 on Brad Corley's home run to lead off the bottom of the 2nd.
The Senators made sure that lead didn't last long as they struck with a two-out rally in the top of the 3rd. After singles by Mike Daniel and William Bergolla, Davis smoked a three-run homer to left to make it 3-1 Harrisburg. Bill Rhinehart followed with a single and moved up on a wild pitch. Edgardo Baez ripped an RBI single to center to extend the lead to 4-1.
Altoona made it interesting in the bottom of the 8th. Jonel Pacheco looped a bases-loaded single to center to knock in a run and make it a 4-2 game. RHP Josh Perrault got out of the jam by inducing an inning-ending double play.
The Curve continued to threaten in the bottom of the 9th, putting the first two batters on base. But a sacrifice bunt attempt came right back to RHP Adam Carr, who threw the lead runner out at third base for the first out of the inning. The next batter grounded into a game-ending double play.
Stammen (1-1) picked up his first career Double-A win, going 7 innings and allowing a run on just two hits. RHP Adam Carr notched his second save in as many nights and his fifth on the season. RHP Yoslan Herrera took the loss to drop to 5-8.
The Senators improved to 49-39 as they took three of four in the series. The Curve dipped to 37-51.
The Senators return to Commerce Bank Park on Tuesday to open a seven-game homestand against the New Britain Rock Cats and Bowie Baysox. RHP Bobby Brownlie (7-0, 3.45 ERA) starts for Harrisburg against New Britain RHP Yohan Pino (2-3, 3.93 ERA).
