Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Harrisburg Senators made a four-run second inning stand up for a, 4-1, win in the opener of a three-game series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels in front of 2,411 on Tuesday night at The Diamond.

The Senators went quietly in the first, but came up swinging against Richmond right-hander Ronnie Ray in the second. Chris Marrero led off the inning with a double to right-center field and scored the game's first run when Marvin Lowrance singled behind him. Michael Martinez followed with a single and Tim Pahuta made it four consecutive hits when he doubled home Lowrance. Jhonatan Solano then grounded into a fielder's choice that brought Martinez in for a 3-0 lead. A batter later, Brad Coon capped the inning with an RBI single back up the middle that plated Solano for a 4-0 cushion.

Ray (0-2) recovered to work through the fifth inning, but he was charged with the loss along with four earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out three as he endured his second losing decision of the season.

Meanwhile, Senators' starter Tom Milone cruised into the sixth inning having shut out the Squirrels on just three hits. Richmond finally got to him for a run in the sixth as Conor Gillaspie doubled with one out. Juan Ciriaco followed with an RBI single to trim the Harrisburg advantage to 4-1.

The run in the sixth was the only allowed by Milone (5-1) as he earned his fifth victory of the season over 5 2/3 innings. Milone allowed five hits, walked one and struck out a season-high seven.

Three relievers took it the rest of the way for Harrisburg as Cole Kimball, Adam Carr and Zech Zinicola combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Zinicola handled the ninth inning and was rewarded with his third save of the season.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:05 PM at The Diamond. RHP Daryl Maday (7-1, 1.68) will make the start for Richmond against RHP Jason Jones (0-1, 10.13) for Harrisburg.
