Senators Assign Goaltender Martin Gerber to Binghampton

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has assigned goaltender Martin Gerber to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League.
In three games during a conditioning assignment with the B-Sens, Gerber posted a 2-1-0 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage. In his last game, he made 32 saves in Binghamton's 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Wednesday, Jan.21.
Gerber, 34, has four wins, nine losses and an overtime loss this season. He has posted a 2.86 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in 14 games. He last saw action with the Senators in a 6-4 loss to the Bruins in Boston on Jan. 8.
The six-year NHL veteran joined the Senators as a free agent on July 1, 2006. In 100 games with Ottawa, Gerber has 49 wins, 36 losses and eight overtime/shootout losses, a.907 save percentage and a 2.76 goals-against average. In 214 career NHL games, he has 104 wins, 73 losses, seven ties, 14 overtime/shootout losses, a .910 save percentage and 2.61 goals-against-average.
Gerber was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the eighth round, 232nd overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He played two seasons in Anaheim before being traded to Carolina on June 18, 2004, for Tomas Malec and a third-round draft pick in 2004. The native of Switzerland played the 2005-06 season with the Hurricanes, en route to their Stanley Cup victory in 2006.
