Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Senators and Connecticut Defenders split their doubleheader on Saturday night with the Defenders winning game one 5-3 and the Sens capturing game two 1-0 in front of 6,645 fans at Metro Bank Park. The Sens have now drawn over 210,000 fans in 2009.
Jesse Estrada made the spot start for the Sens in game two and was outstanding. He pitched five shut out innings but didn't earn the win as the game was 0-0 when he left. Atahualpa pitched a perfect sixth inning to earn the win and Drew Storen pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn his eighth save with the Sens. The three combined to allow just two hits.
Marvin Lowrance drove in Matt Whitney with a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning to plate the only Sens run.
With the win in game two the Sens begin Sunday at 65-66, four and a half games behind Reading for the second and final playoff spot in the Southern Division.
Connecticut won game one by scoring twice in the first and three more in the third then holding on when the Sens failed to capitalize on several scoring opportunities.
Brett Pill for Connecticut drove in three runs in game one to reach 100 rbi's on the season.
With their win in game one Connecticut clinched first place in the Northern Division.
Jemel Spearman hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first for the Sens to tie the game at 2-2. Spearman and Sean Rooney had two hits each for the Sens in game one.
The series continues on Sunday afternoon at 2pm with LH Aaron Thompson on the mound for the Sens against LH Jesse English for Connecticut. It will be the Sens second opportunity to get back to the .500 mark.
