Madison Capitols News Release
MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, announced forward Eetu Selanne has committed to Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Selanne, 18, joined the Capitols at the start of the 2015-16 season. He dressed in 48 games and tallied six goals and four assists for a total of 10 points last season. The Coto De Caza, California native has dressed in eight games with Madison this season.
"I'm stoked to go to Northeastern University," exclaimed Selanne. "Going on my visit there, it was just unbelievable. The coaching staff was so good to all of their players and me, and players in general there were unbelievable, too. The guys were all really cool, and really nice to me; made me feel really well. The campus is unbelievable. Northeastern's Assistant Coach, Coach Keefe, has been talking to me since I was around like 16, so I think that was a big impact, just him always being there and talking to me since I was young. That was probably the biggest decision that impacted in my decision."
The 5-foot-11, 184-pound forward has recorded two points (1-12) with the Capitols thus far this season. He will start his college career with the Huskies in the 2017-18 season.
"I'm so happy for (Selanne)," said Capitols' Head Coach and General Manager Garrett Suter. "He's a good kid, and he works really hard. He had a tough year last year, obviously, with the coaching staff and not playing a ton of games, but this year, he's been good in the locker room, and he's done what I ask on the ice. It was a little bit of a struggle to start to get him to do what we want him to do. He's almost there. We have a little room to grow still, but, I mean, every kid does. I'm really excited for him, and I hope he has so much success there."
Fans can join Selanne and the rest of the Capitols for their rematch with the Bloomington Thunder at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, November 4. It will also be Ladies Night! The first 100 woman to Friday game will receive a goodie bag, and they can go shopping on the concourse! Season tickets, 10-Game Pick 'Em packages, Flex Packs, and Group tickets are now available!
