Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - In a back and forth ballgame, both the Dayton Dragons and Lansing Lugnuts had leads and lost leads before the visitors picked up three in the eighth inning and made the lead stand up. Lansing's 6-4 win over the Dragons, their second straight in the four game series, has the Dragons lead in the MWL Eastern Division down to just four games over the Lugnuts and the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Lansing put two runs on the board in the top of the second inning against Daniel Guerrero (ND). Chris Emanuele and Sean Shoffit had back-to-back doubles to begin the inning and put Lansing up 1-0. After a groundout, Raul Barron reached on an infield single to second. Guerrero was covering first base on the play and dropped the throw from Justin Turner allowing Shoffit to score the second run on the error.

The Dragons came back with two of their own in the bottom of the third on a two run home run by Turner against Lansing starter Graham Godfrey (ND). It was Turner's fifth long ball of the season, and it tied the game at 2-2.

After Lansing got one back in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead, Dayton answered with two more in the bottom of the seventh. Logan Parker tripled to start the inning and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3. After a walk, pinch hitter Chris Heisey picked up an RBI double to put the Dragons out in front 4-3.

The lead was short-lived as Lansing score three times in the 8th. The Lugnuts got RBI doubles from Matt Lane and Shoffit, and an RBI single from Raul Barron to take the 6-4 lead. The first two run were charged to Pedro Viola (LP, 3-1), while the final run was put on the line of Jose Rojas (ND).

The Dragons and Lugnuts continue the four game series with game three Monday evening at Fifth Third Field with a 7:00 PM first pitch. Dayton will start RHP Rafael Gonzalez (8-1, 2.47 ERA) while Lansing turns to RHP Kyle Ginley (0-4, 6.26 ERA). 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM.
