Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - A good offensive showing by the Ottawa 67's couldn't buy them a win. They took 35 shots, but lost 2-1 to the North Bay Battalion Sunday afternoon at The Arena at TD Place.

North Bay scored the tying and game-winning goals just two minutes apart in the second period.

Head coach and general manager Jeff Brown says the 67's was disappointed with the loss, but said his team dominated the game at times.

"There were parts of the game that were great, and there were others that we gave up the game plan and that's what happens," he said.

Sasha Chmelevski got the 67's on the board first. He scored a power play marker at 9:11 of the first period, firing a low wrist shot that beat North Bay goaltender Brent Moran five hole. That made it 1-0, and was the only goal of the first period.

However, the Battalion found a way back into the game quickly. At 9:37 of the second, Justin Brazeau picked up a loose puck and stuffed it between the skate of Olivier Lafreniere and the post for a 1-1 tie.

Then, just two minutes later, North Bay took the lead for the first and final time. Brett Hargrave jumped into a three-on-one rush and fired a shot off the post and in.

In the third period, Ottawa pressed hard but couldn't get a break. With three minutes to go, Noel Hoefenmayer rang a wrist shot from the point off the post, then Moran robbed Chmelevski with his pad on the rebound.

Moran, an Orleans native, stopped 34 shots in a game that saw both goaltenders stand on their heads.

Lafreniere stopped 30 shots for the loss in the Ottawa cage.

The 67's now hit the road for six games on the road before returning for a pair of rescheduled weekday games on January 24 and 25.
