SeaWolves Bust out the Bats on Sunday

The SeaWolves avoided a series sweep on Sunday afternoon as they took down the Reading Fightin Phils 12-4 at Jerry Uht Park.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the bottom of the first against Reading starter Tom Eshelman . Wynton Bernard led off with a single and stole second. With one out, Mike Gerber singled home Bernard for a 1-0 lead. Gerber, who advanced to second on an error, scored on a Corey Jones single making it 2-0.

Erie added to the lead in the second. With one out, Austin Green doubled and with two outs, he scored on a Dominic Ficociello double making it 3-0. Bernard singled home Ficociello making it 4-0.

The SeaWolves continued to add to the lead in the third. Gerber led off with his second hit of the game and he stole second. Jones walked putting two. With one out, Connor Harrell singled to load the bases. Green lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Gerber for a 5-0 lead. Kody Eaves singled home a pair and Ficociello singled home Eaves and the 'Wolves had an 8-0 lead after three innings.

Reading got on the board against Erie starter Tommy Collier in the top of the fourth when Andrew Pullin led off and led off with a solo home run to right making it 8-1.

The 'Wolves again added to their lead in the fifth. Harrell led off with a single and scored on a Green double making it 9-1. Green moved to third on an Eaves base hit to put runners on the corners. With one out, Bernard grounded to short and on an error, Green scored from third making it 10-1.

Reading got one back in the sixth with two outs. Christian Marrero doubled and moved to third on a Mitch Walding base hit. Scott Kingery singled home Marrero making it 10-2.

In the seventh, Roman Quinn homered off of Collier making it 10-3.

Erie made it an 11-3 game in the bottom of the seventh. Green led off with his third double of the game and he would score on a one-out Bernard base hit.

In the last of the eighth, the SeaWolves added to the lead once again. Jones was hit by a pitch with one out, Christin Stewart walked and Harrell reached on an error, loading the bases. Green lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Jones making it 12-3.

Reading got one in the ninth against reliever Tommy Shirley as Pullin homered with one out to make it 12-4. It was his second home run of the game.

Collier (9-7) earned the win for Erie allowing three runs on 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

Eshelman (4-4) took the loss for Reading allowing eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits with a walk and four strikeouts in three innings.

The SeaWolves will host the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Tyler Alexander (1-1, 4.32 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Sam Coonrod (4-2, 2.80 ERA).

Monday is Buck Night presented by Budweiser and Rocket 101. Fans can enjoy concessions specials of Smith's Hot Dogs, Pepsi fountain drinks, popcorn and select domestic draft beers for just $1 each.
