Kent, WA - A late Silvertips rally Friday night proved to not be enough for the Silvertips who suffer a loss in their 2009-2010 WHL season opener, 4-3. Byron Froese, Tyler Maxwell and Markus McCrea all tallied one goal each. Seattle's Colin Jacobs took home the night's first star with a three point performance (1G, 2A). This brings the 'Tips record to 0-1-0-0 with 0 points in 1 game played. Game two of the '09-'10 season continues Saturday night as your Everett Silvertips travel up to Vancouver, B.C. to take on the Giants at 7:00 pm.

Seattle took advantage of a Shane Harper roughing penalty just 32 seconds into the game. Brenden Silvester scored the first goal of the night collecting a mid-slot rebound after a Luke Lockhart wrist shot. The shot beat Simpson five-hole giving the Thunderbirds the 1-0 lead at the 1:58 mark. Everett's power play received their first test of the season after back to back Seattle penalties late in the first period. Tanner Muth and Stefan Warg got called for interference and slashing respectively, but the Silvertips could not find the back of the net during their two man advantage. Despite Seattle's 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, the Silvertips controlled the shot column 13-10.

The Thunderbirds continued their momentum from the first period grabbing their second power play goal of the night at 6:34. Lockhart tallied his second point of the night beating Simpson down low through traffic in the crease. Seattle soon after picked up two quick goals. The first from Prab Rai who picked Simpson's glove side for a 3-0 lead at 7:10, then just over a minute later Jacobs marked his third point of the night after a hard wrist shot beat Simpson from the top of the slot at 8:19. The four goal lead had Everett coach Craig Hartsburg pull Simpson for Heemskerk. McCrea put home Everett's first goal of the season after a strong wrist shot from the left circle beat Calvin Pickard blocker side at 14:24. Seattle ended the period with a 26-23 advantage in the shot category.

Froese netted his first goal of the year at 11:36. A blocked slap shot from the point was picked up in front by Froese and wrapped around Pickard to trim the Seattle lead to 4-2. Maxwell continued Everett's push to tie the game at 13:23 collecting a loose puck in front and going top shelf past Pickard on the backhand to make the score 4-3. Heemskerk was pulled with 47 seconds left in regulation to give Everett the extra attacker. The Silvertips produced several scoring chances late in the game but strong goaltending from Pickard held Everett off.
