Heineman drives in three during a 4-for-5 afternoon.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox fought back with four runs in the ninth inning, but the Memphis Redbirds took game five of the PCL American Conference Championship Series, 13-10, in front of 1,850 at Security Service Field Sunday afternoon.
Memphis scored five runs in the first, but the Sky Sox answered and started the rally with a run in their first at-bats to cut the deficit to 5-1. After Kyle Wren tripled to lead off the inning, Ivan De Jesus lifted a sacrifice fly to right field for his third RBI of the postseason.
Tyler Heineman added to his postseason RBI total in the fourth inning, lining a two-out single to right field to plate De Jesus to trim the score to 5-2. For the Sox catcher, the RBI was his fourth in two games after his three-RBI game Saturday night.
The Sox chipped away at the margin with a single run in the fifth inning. Chris Colabello drew a walk with two outs, but the Josh Zeid offering skipped to backstop and allowed Nick Noonan to put the hosts within four runs at 7-3.
The offense clawed back with three runs in the sixth inning to pull within two runs. Yadiel Rivera doubled into the left field corner for the third straight hit to lead off the frame, scoring Troy Stokes, Jr. Noonan drove in Heineman on deep sacrifice fly to center field and Johnny Davis beat out a potential inning-ending double play to score Rivera and make it an 8-6 game.
The Sox Sox fought back with four runs in the ninth inning to force a save situation. Jacob Nottingham grounded a two-out single up the middle to score Davis for his first hit and RBI with the Sox. After Stokes tripled off the left-centerfield wall to score Nottingham, Heineman launched a two-run home run to deep right field to trim the final margin to three runs.
With the loss, the 2017 Sky Sox season comes to a close. The home opener at Security Service Field for the 2018 season is scheduled for April 10 against the New Orleans Baby Cakes.
