Portland Sea Dogs News Release

(Binghamton, NY) - The Sea Dogs (46-44) scored three runs in the top of the 15th inning to beat the Binghamton Mets (55-34) 8-5 on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium in game that last 5 hours and 2 minutes. Position player Ryan Dent fired two scoreless innings to earn the win in his first professional pitching appearance.

Dent joins Jay Johnson (April 16, 2008) as the second position player in franchise history to earn a win. The Long Beach, CA native worked two innings on two hits, two walks and a strikeout. Dent threw 27 of 49 pitches for strikes, and stranded two runners in the 15th inning.

The 'Dogs broke a 5-5 tie in the 15th inning on a throwing error by 3B Josh Rodriguez on what would have been the third out, allowing Heiker Meneses to score the winning run. Portland two runs on a wild pitch and a run-scoring single by Michael Almanzar. Chasen Bradford suffered the loss for the B-Mets.

Dent stranded two runners in the 15th, getting Cesar Puello to fly out to end the game. He relieved Matt Ott, who tossed four scoreless innings on one hit in his Double-A debut.

Binghamton took 1-0 lead in the first inning on Puello's RBI single. Portland responded with a four-run second inning off Mark Cohoon. Brandon Jacobs doubled and Shannon Wilkerson delivered a bunt-single to start the rally. Heiker Meneses tied the game with a run-scoring single. Derrik Gibson roped an RBI double to center and Christian Vazquez nailed a two-run single with two outs.

Jacobs was removed from the game during the third inning and traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Chicago White Sox for lefty Matt Thornton.

Puello came through again in the third inning. After a balk to score the B-Mets second run, the All-Star outfielder nailed a run-scoring single to left, cutting Portland's lead to 4-3.

The 'Dogs scored an unearned run in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Meneses (3-6, RBI), who started the rally with a one-out single, scored on an error by 3B Richard Lucas.

Bobby Lanigan relieved Keith Couch (6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) in the seventh inning and worked two scoreless frames until two runs in the ninth inning to send the game to extra innings. Meneses committed an error on a grounder hit by Wilfredo Tovar to start the frame. Tovar scored on Puello's RBI single. Allen Dykstra tied the game with a sac-fly.

Lanigan, who was teammates with Couch at Adelphi University, tossed three innings on three hits and two unearned runs in his debut in the Red Sox system.

Gibson, Meneses, Vazquez and Vitek all had three hits for Portland. The Sea Dogs finished with 19 hits and left 16 runners on base.

Prime Motor Group Player of the Game: Ryan Dent
