Trenton Thunder News Release

PORTLAND, ME - In his Double-A debut, Will Carter went five innings and allowed runs in just one of the frames, but it was part of a 5-2 losing effort on a rain-affected night at Hadlock Field.

The Portland Sea Dogs trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the 3rd inning, but after two shutout innings from Will Carter, the Sea Dogs offense capitalized on a few defensive miscues for a four-run inning. After a leadoff walk to Cole Sturgeon and infield single to Rainel Rosario Yoan Moncada was hit by a pitch around the ankle to load the bases.

Mauricio Dubon legged-out a possible doubleplay ball to plate Sturgeon for the first run of the game. With runners at the corners and one out, Andrew Benintendi smoked a triple through centerfielder Dustin Fowler put the Sea Dogs ahead for the first time in the game, 3-2. Portland later added an unearned run to make it a 4-2 game.

Carter picked up the loss, allowing four runs (3 ER) in 5.0 innings while striking out three in his first action with the Thunder. Eric Ruth entered out of the bullpen for an inning, allowing the final run of the night to make it 5-2.

Rains poured in at 9:03 p.m. and were unrelenting until the game was ultimately called at 9:57 p.m. The Thunder were a season-best 23 games above .500 entering the night, and now fall back to 62-40 (.608) on the season.

The Trenton Thunder and Portland Sea Dogs return to action Tuesday night with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. first pitch at Hadlock Field. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 91.3 FM and online at www.trentonthunder.com
