(Portland, ME) - LF Aaron Bates (3-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) and 3B Zach Borowiak (2-for-4, 3 RBI) drove in three runs in Portland's (19-19) 7-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (22-18) on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. RHP Jarod Plummer (2-1) stranded seven runners over five scoreless frames to earn his second win of the year, defeating LHP Marc Rzepczynski (6-3), the Eastern League leader in wins (6) and strikeouts (52).

Plummer scattered four hits and three walks, holding the Fisher Cats hitless (0-for-6) with runners-in-scoring position. The righty completed the top of the fifth inning with his third strikeout of the game and a 3-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs scored the game's first run in their first turn against Rzepczynski. 2B Ryan Khoury (0-for-2, 3 BB, 2 RS) scored from second base on Bates' infield single and an error by 1B Brian Dopirak. Borowiak gave Portland some breathing room in the fourth inning, lacing a 2-run double off the Maine Monster, scoring 1B Jon Still (2-for-4) and RF Reid Engel (1-for-3). Borowiak added a pad-run with a second run-scoring double in the sixth inning off RHP Celson Polanco.

Rzepczynski lasted five innings on six hits and three runs to take his third loss of the season for New Hampshire.

LHP Dustin Richardson worked the seventh inning and allowed two runs on Dopirak's 2-run double off the right-field billboards. The Sea Dogs retaliated in the home half of the seventh inning on a 3-run shot by Bates over the Maine Monster in left-center field.

RHP Bryce Cox closed out the game with two scoreless innings for the Sea Dogs. Portland ended a 3-game losing streak and pulled within 2 games of the Fisher Cats for the top spot in the Eastern League's Northern Division.

The two teams play the rubber-matchup of their 3-game series on Thursday afternoon beginning at 12:00 PM. LHP Felix Doubront (3-2, 3.58) will face New Hampshire's RHP Randy Boone (3-1, 4.50). Notes...Portland went 5-for-15 with runners-in-scoring position after going 4 for their previous 35...Borowiak had a season-high in RBI with three...Khoury extended his on-base streak at Hadlock Field to 20 straight games dating back to last August...RHP Chris Province pitched a scoreless sixth inning on one hit and a strikeout.
