Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

BATHURST - Thomas Chabot's power play goal late in the second period proved to be the game winner as the Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, 6-3, Friday at the KC Irving Regional Centre.

Cedric Pare had a goal and two assists to lead the Saint John (14-6-2-0) offence while Chabot, Matthew Highmore and Samuel Dove-McFalls finished the night with a goal and an assist each. Mathieu Joseph and Samuel Leblanc also scored. The Sea Dogs have won three straight.

Dawson Theede, Felix Boivin and Christophe Boivin responded for Acadie-Bathurst (9-11-1-1), which lost its second consecutive game.

A scoring summary is available HERE [http://theqmjhl.ca/gamecentre/24878/boxscore].

Saint John opened the scoring more than five minutes into the game with their league-leading ninth shorthanded goal of the season.

Highmore stole the puck at the red line and raced in alone, beating Titan goalie Reilly Pickard with a wrist shot beyond his glove.

But Theede tied the game just over a minute later, moments after that same Acadie-Bathurst power play expired.

The former Sea Dog carried the puck around the net into the right circle, turned and rifled a quick wrist shot past Alex D'Orio's blocker in the Saint John goal.

Joseph gave the Sea Dogs the lead again with a highlight-reel strike midway through the period.

The 19-year-old winger corralled the puck in the neutral zone, danced in on the right wing, moved over to the left circle and whistled a hard wrist shot in on the short side, over the right shoulder of Pickard. Joseph became the first 20-goal-scorer in the QMJHL this season.

Two minutes later, Pare potted the rebound of a long shot that hit a skate in front of Pickard to make it 3-1.

Pickard allowed three goals on 15 shots in the first period. He was relieved to start the second by Francis Lavallee.

The Titan got back within one early in the frame when a turnover near the Saint John blueline turned into a 2-on-1 chance. Theede fed a pass from the left side to the front of the goal. D'Orio made an initial stop but Felix Boivin buried the rebound into an open net.

The Sea Dog power play connected for two goals with under six minutes remaining in the period.

First, Matthew Highmore fed a short pass to Chabot in the left circle, where the Ottawa Senators' first rounder hammered a one-timer off Lavallee's glove and in.

Then Pare found Leblanc in the right circle. The Dieppe product rifled a wrist shot inside the near post, short side, past the glove of Lavallee.

Acadie-Bathurst cut its deficit to two early in the third when defenceman Nicolas Dumulong launched a low wrister from the left point that D'Orio kicked to his right. Christophe Boivin pounced on the rebound to make it 5-3.

Dove-McFalls completed the scoring with six-and-a-half minutes left.

Chabot circled the Titan zone and ended up in the left circle before finding Dove-McFalls with a backdoor pass off the right side of the crease. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect stopped it before snapping a shot past a diving Lavallee.

D'Orio remains unbeaten on the season with 27 saves in his sixth win. Lavallee took the loss in relief, making 18 saves in the game's final forty minutes.

Chabot's goal and assist made him first star while Pare's three-point night attracted second-star honours. Felix Boivin took third star in front of 1,682 fans in attendance.
