SAINT JOHN - Ostap Safin and Robbie Burt each recorded two goals and one assist to help the Saint John Sea Dogs end a six-game losing skid with a 6-3 victory over the Halifax Mooseheads, Friday at Harbour Station.

Anthony Boucher and Ben Reid also scored for Saint John (13-30-7-2) while Cedric Pare added three assists.

Otto Somppi, Filip Zadina and Xavier Parent replied for Halifax (34-13-6-1), which have lost two straight games.

The Sea Dogs opened the scoring nearly five minutes into the game.

Defenceman Alexis Girard fed a stretch pass from the left side of Alex D'Orio's crease all the way to Safin at the Mooseheads' blueline. The Edmonton Oilers' prospect whistled a wrist shot past the glove of Blade Mann-Dixon in the Halifax goal.

Somppi tied the game four minutes into the second, taking a pass in the right circle and blasting a one-timer over D'Orio's blocker.

Safin restored the Saint John lead four minutes later with a 4-on-3 power play strike.

Burt fed a pass from the left faceoff dot to Pare in front of the crease. His backhand shot was kicked out by Mann-Dixon, but Safin lifted the rebound over the fallen netminder to make it 2-1.

But the visitors responded only 14 seconds later.

Zadina danced into the right circle, put the puck between his own legs and sent a backhand shot over D'Orio's blocker and under the crossbar.

The Sea Dogs got back in front again with 3.5 seconds left in the period.

A pass to the front of the goal was blocked and picked up by Pare. He found Burt off the right side of the crease, and the Ontario-native snapped a quick shot into the top of the goal.

Saint John earned its first two-goal lead 53 seconds into the third.

Safin chased his own shoot-in behind the net and swung a pass in front to Kevin Gursoy. His wrist shot was stopped, but the rebound squirted through Mann-Dixon's pads and sat in the crease. Gursoy and Boucher combined to sweep it across the goal line with Boucher getting credit.

Parent cut his team's deficit back to one on the next shift, only eleven seconds later, with a backhand shot from the right side of the low slot that made it inside the left post.

Burt's second of the game came past the seven-minute mark when he carried the puck on the left side during a 3-on-1 and rifled a wrister over Mann-Dixon's blocker.

Reid concluded the scoring with four minutes left.

The Quispamsis-native picked up the puck on the right side of his own zone, darted down the wing and ripped a wrist shot from the right circle that went over Mann-Dixon's right shoulder.

D'Orio made 28 saves for the win and chipped in with an assist. Mann-Dixon, the former Sea Dog, stopped 36 shots in a losing cause.

Safin and Burt were named first and second star, respectively, thanks to their two-goal, three-point performances. Pare nabbed third star with three assists in front of 4,349 fans in attendance.

The Sea Dogs' next game is Saturday, February 10th, at 7 p.m. against the Shawinigan Cataractes at Harbour Station. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office and online.
