Cape Breton Eagles News Release

Sydney - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles announced today that they have signed General Manager & Head Coach Marc-André Dumont to a two year contract extension which runs through the end of the 2017-18 season. Dumont's previous two-year contract was set to end in June.

This season Dumont led the Screaming Eagles to their first playoff series win since 2009, defeating the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in six games on home ice, before falling in seven games to the Maritime Division Champion Saint John Sea Dogs in the second round.

"Under Marc-André's leadership, our hockey program has made significant strides forward; on the ice, in our community, recruitment of import players, draft success and free agency among others," said Screaming Eagles President Andre Cote. "With a two year extension, we fully support Marc as the man for the job ahead; continuing the positive development of our team's winning culture and convert the disappointment of losing game seven of the second round into an opportunity to become better."

Dumont, 42, who was hired by the Screaming Eagles back in December 2012, will enter his fourth full season as General Manager & Head Coach this coming season.

"I love it here in Cape Breton," said Marc-André Dumont. "It's an honour to be part of this team and lead the hockey operations. As much as we made steps forward this past season, we wished for more. Everyone including me was disappointed. I will put all my heart and my energy to make this program even better and competitive in the next few years. I will never be satisfied until the day I can thank the population of Cape Breton for their hospitality and their loyalty towards the team with a playoff championship."

Dumont, nominated for General Manager of year at the 2014 QMJHL Golden Pucks Awards, has brought some top players to the Screaming Eagles organization.

"Marc-André has incredible ability to recognize talent and develop it. He will continue to develop top end players who will become the pride of our community," Cote said.

Talent such as Evgeny Svechnikov, drafted 19th overall by the Detroit Red Wings at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, has since signed a three-year NHL entry level contract with the Red Wings, and Pierre-Luc Dubois, who looks to become the highest Screaming Eagle drafted since Marc-Andre Fleury was drafted first overall back in 2003. Dubois, drafted fifth overall at the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft, is currently ranked the number one prospect among North American Skaters for the upcoming 2016 NHL Entry Draft (according to the NHL's Central Scouting Final 2016 Draft Prospect Rankings).

Dumont is excited about the transition from the past cycle into the next one. "There is a team culture in place and that will facilitate the transition. All returning players will nurture our all-in attitude and daily commitment towards success on and off the ice," said Dumont.

In addition to Dumont being signed, Assistant Coach, Goalie & Video - Joel Gauthier signed a two-year contract extension. Assistant Coach Henri Izard, who was on sabbatical from a job as a CEGEP teacher in Quebec City, will not be back with the team next season.

"It was a very difficult decision, I really enjoyed working with Marc-André and the Screaming Eagles organization," said Izard. "However, now that my sabbatical leave has ended, the right decision for my family is to return to my job at CEGEP. This community is exceptional and my family will have life long memories of our time here."

"Henri has been instrumental in bringing stability on this hockey team in the course of the last three seasons," said Dumont. "His commitment had an expiration date due to professional reasons. He can certainly return home proud of his contribution and his incredible work."

Dumont will now begin the search for Izard's replacement and invites interested candidates to email their resume to admin@capebretoneagles.com.
