Screaming Eagles Partner with Membertou for Because You Care Draft Hockey Tournament

SYDNEY - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and Membertou First Nation will team up this coming weekend to help put on the second annual Because You Care Draft Hockey Tournament this weekend. The event is a fundraiser for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and is sponsored by the MacDonald Auto Group. 70 players on six different teams will compete from Friday, August 3rd to Sunday, August 5th. All games will be held at the Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre.

The Screaming Eagles have donated six sets of uniforms to be worn during the tournament, while Membertou will provide the ice time free of charge. Registration fees paid by the players will be donated to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for cancer research. The Because You Care Draft Hockey Tournament is a partner event of the Because You Care Cup street hockey tournament.

Current Screaming Eagles forward Mitchell Balmas will be among those playing in the tournament, along with former Screaming Eagles Jonathan Brunelle, Marc Bourgeois, Cole Reginato, Alex Bonaparte and former Cape Breton Oiler/NHL veteran Shaun Van Allen. Other former QMJHL players include James Sanford and Ryan Sparling, in addition to current Charlottetown Islander Derek Gentile. Three members of the Cape Breton Tradesmen (Kinnon Williams, Sonny Kabatay, and Camdon Langlois) as well as Dell Welton of the Cape Breton West Islanders will also be in action. Teams were chosen via a draft and a subsequent trade period.

Friday's games will take place from 7 PM to 9 PM, Saturday's games will be held from 9 AM to 1 PM and the tournament concludes on Sunday with games between 9 AM to 12 PM.
